Research project
Title
The transit of works, artists and materials in the Ancient Mediterranean: the production of art and its trade in Antiquity
Area of Inquiry and Research
Art and Reception
Description
The static and chronological notion of the formulation and construction of artistic objects still prevails in the Historiography of Ancient Art, carried out within a specific geographical context and according to a progressive evolution. However, the new theories of Global Art should help us think about the transit of ideas, materials, artists and works in Antiquity. The objective of this proposal is to allow an updated approach to Ancient Art and its discussion within museum-ified contexts, for example, both in Brazil and abroad. From this perspective, museums, archives and exhibitions play a fundamental role in the dialogue between these worlds. Despite the objects being decontextualized, the public's contact with their materiality provides a vision in relation to this culture with the potential for interdisciplinarity.
