About the PPGHA

The Postgraduate Program in Art History, founded in 2019, is part of the Art Institute of the State University of Rio de Janeiro and offers both master’s and doctoral degrees. The program’s focus is Global Art History. The PPGHA is structured around two complementary and tightly entwined research strands – “art and reception” and “art and alterity” – which nurture a dialogue around the study of global art history. The program aims to foster research on diverse forms of artistic production, over varying time frames and geographies, from a plural perspective. Candidates are admitted on an annual basis, and the selection process typically takes place in June or July.
